- Presentation of Proposal by Vignes
- Aims for the project
- Create useful lesson material
- Identify the common problems faced by the disabled
- The needs of special schools such as Tanglin
- Asking of questions
Answering of questions
- Do they undergo an IQ test?
- Compulsory, students have to score within 50 to 70 to enroll in Tanglin school [Mild-intellectual disability]
- We shouldn’t judge them based on the test as different students have different background and skills they possess. 3 types of students:
- Stronger in literacy, weaker in numeracy
- Weaker in literacy, stronger in numeracy
- Weak in both areas
- Students ‘graduate’ to Delta Senior School upon fulfilling 2 for literacy, 2 for [I forgot] and 1 for numeracy for the test in year 4.
- The school maintains the stand that “IQ is changeable”
- Students are split into classes according to IQ
- Low support needs
- Medium support needs
- High support needs
- However, all of the students will benefit from Social Assistance training we proposed.
- Students like activities
- Can serve as “practice”
- Suggestions for Social Assistance training
- Etiquette
- Internal integrity [Moral values]
- Where would the venue be for such training activities?
- Classroom [subject to availability at that time]
- SPARKZ room
Other info:
- Readings given are to widen our perspective
- Tanglin aims to educate students in 7 main areas: [or so I hope it is..]
- Self-awareness [Interaction with others]
- Self-regulation [Handling of emotions]
- Problem Solving & Decision Making
- Goal setting and achievement
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Internship [Not very sure about this]
- 2 New Subjects this year
- Vocational guidance
- Socio-awareness
- Both are new topics, so much teaching resources are required.
- Where our projects will be able to complement their learning and contribute to lesson materials
- ECG Portal set up by MOE
- Certain primary and secondary school students involved
- Seeks to guides students in job pathways
- Suggestion for vocational guidance:
- Try doing with parent’s job first; Easier to approach
- Qn: Shouldn’t we think about what jobs are suitable for them first?
- At this stage [in Tanglin school], the main purpose is to broaden their scope and allow them to try out/know different job pathways, even though they might not be suitable to engage in these jobs
- Do not limit them yet
- Also to ignite passion and goals in students
- Showing of previous videos made by teachers
- Was very effective, since the students are visual learners
- Students enjoy acting in the video
- However they are the younger students
- So the students selected for our project might not give such a positive response
- Video was short with minimal editing
